Dormansland street light switch-off

Surrey County Council revealed roads included in the final phase of Surrey’s street light switch-off. The policy to switch off more than 40,000 street lights between midnight and 5am was signed off by councillors in October 2016 as part of a £210,000 cost-saving measure. It should be implemented by March 2017.

Sadly, 24 streets in Dormansland (including High Street) will be affected by the switch-off:

  • Bassetts Hill
  • Beacon Hill
  • Blackberry Lane
  • Blackberry Road
  • Clinton Hill
  • Dormans Close

  • Furzefield Chase
  • High Street Dormansland

David Hodge wants more money

Surrey County Council leader David Hodge confirmed that the authority is planning to raise council tax by an outrageous 15 per cent. This could mean that Dormansland residents who own Band D homes will have to add at least £190 to their current tax bill.

Any proposed council tax increase of more than 4.99 per cent requires a public referendum to be held on the issue.

Do Surrey Tories really think that residents will back their plan?
